Rasputin: His Malignant Influence and His Assassination
Few figures from the final years of Imperial Russia are as compelling as Prince Felix Yusupov, the aristocrat who orchestrated the assassination of Grigori Rasputin in December 1916. Written during his exile following the Russian Revolution, this memoir offers one of the most important firsthand accounts of Rasputin's extraordinary influence over the Romanov court and the dramatic events that preceded the collapse of the Russian Empire.
This copy is particularly desirable as a signed presentation copy, inscribed by Prince Yusupov in Paris in 1929:
"To Mr. Aage Birger Nilsen in Remembrance, from Prince Youssoupoff. Paris 1929."
Presentation copies from Yusupov's years in exile are increasingly scarce and are especially sought after by collectors of Imperial Russia, the Romanovs, and association copies.
Historical Significance
More than a personal memoir, Rasputin: His Malignant Influence and His Assassination is an important historical source documenting one of the defining episodes of twentieth-century Russian history. Yusupov's account has shaped popular understanding of Rasputin's influence at the Imperial Court and remains an essential work for collectors interested in the Russian Revolution, the Romanov dynasty, and modern European history.
Condition
A very good copy in the original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. Light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities, together with slight darkening at the head of the spine, consistent with careful handling over nearly a century. Endpapers lightly browned with characteristic age toning. The text remains clean and well preserved throughout. Portrait frontispiece and photographic plates in excellent condition.
